Topic discussed: Because I want to be a teacher and he works as a TA currently, my conversation partner and I talk about education a lot. More specifically, we talk about public education systems. I was telling him that I don't really have a lot of experience with Florida public education because, before college, I went to school in Maryland.
Cultural and/or linguistic topics you and your partner learned: We talked about how different teaching is from state to state. Although there are nation wide standardized exams that all students take, the amount of money and resources available changes the quality of education. I also explained magnet schools in Maryland. Again, I don't really understand the different programs in Florida. I also explained how teacher salary and benefits change depending on where you are in the United States. Unfortunately, I didn't really know enough about the requirements for teaching and the demand for teachers in the United States.
