Mary Phillips TS #9

Date/Time: November 30, 2015, 3:30-4:30
Location: Public library
Topic/skill: Vocabulary, compound words

Feedback provided to tutee: Again many of the games/quizzes I used were self-scoring.  I'm not sure how effective this was.  Sometimes she would note the score especially if it was low.  However, often she didn't care either way about the score unless either the website or the quiz made a big production of it.

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I think it's better if I structure the hour so that I get the hardest/least enjoyable worksheets done first.  I've tried switching between more enjoyable games and (by comparison) less enjoyable worksheets but it's really difficult to convince her to leave the game and go to the worksheet.  Also, as is normal, it's hard for her to concentrate for the entire hour so I should probably get the heavier stuff out of the way at the beginning and then move on to word/vocabulary games later on.  Every once in awhile she will outright refuse to do something and I'm never really sure how to respond.
