Jun has been messaging me all week to remind me to study my Korean lesson. I had no idea he would be so excited to have me play the student but he was definitely more chipper this morning during our session than he has ever been. I counted to 10 in Korean for him and he had a great time correcting my pronunciation errors. By next week, he wants me to learn how to say please, thank you, hello, and goodbye.

For the rest of the session, we talked about his week and his family. He told me that the night before, there was a fire in his building and his family had to sleep over at his grandparents' home to avoid the smoke. He was very excited to note that he was captured by the news camera as they evacuated the apartment and he saw himself on TV later that evening.

His assignment for the week is to record a two minute speech sample on any topic he chooses. At first, he thought it sounded like a difficult assignment but I have no doubt he will fill two minutes easily once he starts recording. I will not be surprised if I return next week to 5+ minutes of recording to transcribe.
