Topic discussed: introduction; goals and more

Cultural and/or linguistic topics you and your partner learned: Victoria and I have learned about each other in terms of backgrounds, education, and goals. I learned that Victoria is planning to go to France to teach English there. She shared her experiences in France. During her visit, any time she practice speaking French, people were switching to English. So, she couldn’t have too much chance for practicing. I mentioned about Turkish culture where a foreign person would be encouraged to speak in Turkish.

We talked about the system how the students are accepted to the colleges in Turkey. The students don’t apply the colleges individually. They take a nationwide exam, and according to their exam score ,they send their college preferences list to the student placement agency to be placed accordingly. So, it is very different than the US college application system.

At the end of our session, I asked Victoria to correct my mistakes during our conversation which would help to improve my speaking skills.
