Karen Hand CP #1
Date/Time: 10/22/15, 1:30 – 2:30
Location: LeRoy Collins Public Library
Topic Discussed: Time Capsule for 2015
Cultural and/or linguistic topics you and your partner(s) learned: My conversation partners are ESL students from all around the world who attend a conversation group that I lead at the LeRoy Collins Public Library. Since today was the day after “Back to the Future Day,” I chose a topic of “What would you put in a time capsule to represent the year 2015, if you knew the time capsule would not be opened for 100 years, and you wanted people to know what life was like in 2015.” My students shared many great ideas, which I wrote on the white board. I encouraged them to come up with items that represent the various cultures of the world. They said they would include an iPod with music from around the world, a smartphone & phone charger, DVDs with current movies, a DVD player, recipes for foods from various cultures, non-GMO seeds for corn and other crops, books and educational material, and flags from different countries. They came up with many other great ideas, too. I helped them find the correct words when necessary, to express what they wanted to include in the time capsule.
