Topic/Skill: Speaking 1A with Leslie
Teacher Presentation: The teacher talked about transition words and used a powerpoint to introduce activities to be used with transition word practice.
Classroom Management: The teacher managed the classroom by walking around with a clipboard and taking notes of what students did write or wrong. She did not review their mistakes at the end.
Student Participation: The students were put into groups of four. Each group received a list of time expressions and verbs on small note cards and were told to create sentences using transition words such as "and, so, but, then". Each student then went around their group and spoke to each other. Students helped each other form sentences or gave their feelow classmates ideas.
Feedback Provided: Leslie went around to each student to check what they were saying. She did not help them.
Lesson(s) on teaching you learned: I learned that for lower level students, such as A1, it is important for them to speak about things that they do in a lower level speaking class. They need to be able to elaborate confidentially about their every-day activities.
