Date/Time: 11/4/15 1:00 PM Leslie's Speaking Class
Topic/Skill: Speaking about health (sicknesses and symptoms)
Teacher Presentation: Leslie displayed the agenda using the projector. She began the class by providing introductions and directly speaking with the students. I also had the opportunity to watch the TA facilitate an activity. The students were directed to solve a "picture puzzle" and then create a story using vocabulary about health.
Classroom Management: Leslie used similar methods to Sana and Ryan. She did a good job managing the class. For example, she would politely ask students to listen to their classmates, and she walked around the room to offer feedback and encouragement.
Student Participation: The students worked in groups of two or three to complete all speaking activities. They asked and answered many questions. Overall, I thought they were very active and excited to speak.
Feedback Provided: Leslie also collected "beautiful mistakes" and reviewed them after the speaking activity. She provided positive feedback.
Lesson(s) on teaching you learned: I learned how important it is to engage a class, particularly a speaking class. Leslie and her TA included several different activities in their lesson. It's important to have a balance of formative and summative assessment throughout the lesson.
