Topic/Skill: Speaking & Writing
Feedback provided to tutee: Today Astin and I worked on his speaking and writing skills. We practiced writing upper-case and lower-case letters. For the remainder of the time, we utilized his flash cards to practice speaking. I helped him with his pronunciation and sentence formation.
Lessons about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: Astin had a lot of energy this afternoon. Although I have a lot of experience working with children, I'm still learning to practice patience. I'm also learning that children have very short attention spans. Once Astin started to get bored with writing (after 15 minutes), we moved on to another activity. I also encourage him to choose which type of activity he would like to practice. Giving power and choice to the students creates a positive learning environment and ultimately increases their intrinsic motivation.
