Nicole CP#1

Date/Time: 11/4/15; 10am (EST)
Location: Skype with Dojun in South Korea
Topics discussed: After initial introductions, we talked about Dojun's job as a technical assistant for an airline in South Korea. We also chatted about how ridiculous we feel the practice of daylight savings time is and he told me that South Korea implemented a time change in 1988 as a way to ease the time difference for foreigners traveling to Seoul for the Olympics.

Dojun has traveled to Thailand and the Phillipines but would love to travel more in the future. Many Koreans travel to the Phillipines to learn English because the country is relatively close and courses are less expensive than similar programs in N America or England. We talked about my lifestyle in Ecuador and shared stories of difficulties we both experience in learning our second languages. We really have many of the same challenges! He says that Cancun is a popular destination for honeymooners from Korea and that he would very much like to visit South America some day but it is incredibly difficult to reach as there are no direct flights.

Dojun has studied English for 10 years in school but believes that practicing with native English speakers will be much more helpful. He requested right away that I correct any errors I hear in his speech.

I really admired his dedication to learning English. Even though he needs to wake up early tomorrow morning for work, he was willing to schedule time for our conversation this evening until midnight Korean time!
