Location: "Old School Party" after Football game
Topic discussed: This was Amal's first "tailgating" party for after the game! We discussed a lot about American traditions such as tailgating. She also discussed to me how rich Saudi Arabia is and that she once had a princess in one of her classes.
Cultural and/or linguistic topics you and your partner learned: The funniest thing I learned with Amal is that when women and men get married, before their marriage, the men and women are put in separate rooms in Saudi Arabia. And in the women's room, the women's "entertainment" is to dance to speakers and perhaps watch a projector where they show a men's band playing music. Since some of the women were not wearing the whole hijab cover-up, they used a projector of a men's band to listen to music. I thought it interesting how they used technology to make it work religiously.
I learned about how Saudi Arabians can dislike the Saud royal family - because some of them do not always cover themselves up, especially when they go abroad.
