Feedback provided to tutee: I am tutoring Jun, a 10-year old (3rd grade) boy in Korea. I was out-of-town in Indianapolis for this session. I told Jun that I was in a different place today. He said, “It looks like a hotel.” I told him he was right and that I was in Indiana for a conference. He didn’t know where Indiana was, so I explained where it is geographically. I asked if he knew what a conference is. He said yes, his father teaches at a university and goes to conferences. I told him it was a conference about education and learning, and that I had presented a paper. He said his father has presented at conferences. He seemed to understand and follow me very well. He asked to see outside my window, so I took the laptop and showed him the streets and building, which he really liked. He showed me outside his window again, and I could see the fall colors on the leaves of the trees. Jun told me he would have a busy weekend because he was going to a wedding. He said it was his “father’s uncle’s daughter.” I said that would be a cousin and asked him if he knew what a cousin is. He said yes and that he has many cousins. Again, whenever I gave Jun a correction to his English, he seemed to reflect on it and assimilate it easily.
