Topic/skill: Needs assessment
Feedback provided to tutee: Because the tutee was at such a high level of proficiency, I corrected errors as she made them during our discussion.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: First, my tutee and I talked about ourselves and got to know one another. Mostly, my tutee and I discussed what we wanted to accomplish during tutoring and any specific areas she thought she needed more help in. Specifically, for instance, she wanted to work on the conditional tense. Also, she wanted to practice speaking spontaneously because that is where she struggles the most. Finally, she wanted to expand her vocabulary. I think the meeting was very productive and I have a good sense of what I need to research and find for our next meeting. To me, this very much cemented the idea that needs assessments are very, very useful.
