Karen Hand TS #4

Karen Hand TS #4 (Child Tutee)

Date/Time: 10/30/15, 8:30 – 9:00 p.m.

Location: Skype

Topic Discussed: General Conversation, Family, Korea, America, Tallahassee

Feedback provided to tutee: I am tutoring Jun, a 10-year old (3rd grade) boy in Korea. Today I met him for the first time, and I focused on getting to know him. His mother previously told me that she wanted Jun to practice his speaking skills. I found out that Jun lives in Seoul. He took his laptop computer to the window and with the webcam he showed me the view outside his window. He asked if I could see the apartment buildings. There were many skyscrapers everywhere I looked! I asked him to tell me about his family. He told me about his Mom and Dad, and told me that he has a 3-year-old brother, Kevin. He said that Kevin was born in America and is really cute. He took the laptop computer into the other room so that I could see Kevin. His Dad was holding Kevin and also said hi to me. Jun is a very proud big brother to Kevin! Jun’s English is very good and when I provide a correction or teach him a new word, he seems to pause and take it in (repeating it once or twice) and then is ready to move on with the conversation. He seems to learn quickly and naturally.
