Karen Hand TS #14
Karen Hand TS #14 (Adult Tutee)
Date/Time: 11/30/15, 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Location: CIES
Topic Discussed: Preparing for Final Exam
Feedback provided to tutee: Today I helped Fadia prepare for her final exams. First we reviewed words with short vowels. She wanted me to give her dictation, so I did. I noticed that she struggles with “p” and b.” Also, she sometimes confuses the different vowel sounds. I had her make lists of words that were similar and put them together in groups (e.g., mop & map, or hen, hem, & him). I told her to practice the groups of words and try to make sure she understands the differences in pronunciation. Then she wanted help with her grammar homework. She had to write 3 sentences (one positive, one negative, and one question) for quite a few different verb tenses. I would point out when I saw her make an error, but would try to guide her towards the correction rather than giving it to her. I also looked up lists of “feeling words” for her to use in the “to be” sentences. Finally, she wanted help with another listening exercise that required us to put a CD into my computer and play a song. We listened to a song about paying bills while she took dictation for some of the words that had been left blank on the lyrics sheet she was given for that exercise. We had a very long session since there was a lot that she wanted to review. Overall, I thought she did really well!
