11/17/2015 at the CIES Lounge
Arzu and I took a break today from an "academic" approach to tutoring and focused on conversation instead which hones in on her main goal for her time in the TEFL course as well as her sessions with me. The CIES lounge was actually a great place to hold this conversation because there were many other conversations happening in the background as well as a lot of folks moving around so it was a great environment in which to practice chatting with tons of distractions. We talked about the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday here as well as some holidays that are typically celebrated in Turkey. We also discussed the rather grim topic of cancer and medical issues in general.
I was able to make some error corrections in the moment and focused quite a bit on correcting article usage. She really does a great job of catching her own errors so I have learned to be more patient and to let her work through the process herself as much as possible before interjecting. I was happy to have this time to get to know Arzu better on a personal level and the hour passed quickly!
