Mary Phillips TS #3

Date/time: November 4, 2015 at 3:30pm

Location: Public library

Topic/skill: Conditional tense

Feedback provided to tutee: Because we were focusing almost exclusively on the conditional tense, I made sure to correct all conditional tense errors.  Also, my tutee was often unsure of how to pronounce certain words so I made sure to repeat any new words several times until she got them.

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: The conditional tense was interesting because I had to do a lot of research beforehand to make sure I could explain all the different types of conditional sentences.  And even after my research, I still didn't really understand what purpose mixed conditional sentences served.  It would have been better if I had found a better explanation from a different website.  I think it would have been helpful if I had prepared more example sentences beforehand.  It was surprisingly difficult to just create a random conditional sentence.  I looked at a lot of fill-in-the-blank worksheets to find example sentences.  I also found it very useful, when correcting sentences, to write them down so I could better explain what grammatical rules applied.
